I chose this photo as an artifact because of how much it represents. This is a phot of myself and one of my best friends Calvin Behrens in front of Sigma Nu. Calvin is someone who has been like an older brother to me since freshman year on the UW Ultimate Frisbee B-team. He brought out the best in me and as always had my back. At the end of freshman year, he started bringing me out to Fraternity events and changed my mind about Greek Life. I roomed with him my fall quarter sophomore year, and he was one of the main people who convinced me to pursue CEP as a major. The other reason this picture is important is because it’s in front of the house, which stands for the incredible community I’ve been a part of these past four years. I was able to grow a lot through the house and make incredible friendships as well. I have so much love for my experience there as well as my friend Calvin, which is why it’s a perfect artifact from my college career.
This is a great artifact from my college career, because it encapsulates so many experiences in one. This is a 3D printed fish that was given to me over the summer by a camper at the summer camp I worked at on South Lake Union. For starters, it’s a fish and represents the water, summer, and times at camp. Whenever I get stressed out, I’ve always found comfort in going to the water and it has always calmed me down. Just being on the water and hearing all the little sounds that the water makes will always bring me peace. It is also from one of my campers which signifies my love for people and getting to work with and inspire kids. Lastly, the camp I worked at last summer was a kayaking camp, and that has become one of my favorite activities on the planet. This little trinket is a great representation of so many passions of mine and one of the best summers of my life.
This pint glass is a perfect representation of the time I’ve been lucky enough to spend in CEP. Happy hours have always been one of the best parts of belonging to the College of Built Environments, as well as great time spent with my peers in all the cohorts, I’ve been lucky enough to know. I have no idea where I would be now without having been a part of CEP and the incredible community around me, and this glass also pays homage to that. One of our own, Naomi, Designed this glass, so it also represents the incredible resourcefulness of the CEP community and how we all support each other. When Naomi put this Design up to be voted on as the design for spring quarter, we all rallied behind her and voted for hers as a major. It just goes to show the incredible strength of this community and how I have always been able to lean on my spectacular friends in CEP no matter the situation. We always have each other’s backs!
